Journey to Safety offers dynamic, customized workshops for synagogues (including auxiliary groups like Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Social Action, and Caring Community/Chesed), schools, educators, social groups, businesses, and communal organizations of all sizes.

Education and Outreach

These sessions are designed to help people recognize the warning signs of abuse and to know how to respond if they suspect or know that a friend, coworker, or family member is being abused by an intimate partner.

Program Goals

Looking through a Jewish lens, sessions are designed to:

• Examine the dynamics of domestic/dating abuse
• Explore reasons why it might be difficult to leave an abusive relationship
• Look at cultural and religious observance factors that might play a role in a Jewish abuse survivor’s experience
• Talk about values and teachings from the Jewish tradition that might influence how we respond to domestic abuse in our community
• Give participants the skills and tools they need to address domestic abuse when they see or hear about it

Examples of programs we have run in the past include:

• Education and awareness raising presentations
• Training for synagogue clergy, staff, and lay leaders
• Training for teachers, administrators, and other education professionals
• Presentations for teens including single or multi-session programs created and led by trained teen peer educators working with a youth educator
• Concurrent programs for teens and their parents
