Aging presents many challenges that can overwhelm our usual ways of coping. The death of a spouse or child, isolation due to illness or disability, moving from a life-long home or relocation are all examples of losses that might cause emotional stress for a senior.

At JF&CS, a comprehensive evaluation is available to determine the nature of the problem and to design an effective treatment plan. Our professional staff is composed of licensed clinical social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists. They are adept at treating a full range of problems, from the most disabling mental illness to the emotional adjustment that is common during difficult life transitions.

Our services include:

  • Individual, couples and family counseling
  • Psychiatric assessment and medication treatment
  • Consultation to family members and care providers
  • Home-based services for elders unable to come to the office
  • Limited bilingual services are available in Russian and Hebrew
  • Mental Health staff members collaborate with other JF&CS senior programs such as Home Health and Homecare, Friendly Visitors, Care Management and Safe at Home, and Schecter Holocaust Survivors (Hakalah).

Geriatric Mental Health services are covered by Medicare and most commercial insurance companies. Our staff is knowledgeable about third-party reimbursement and can help clients with billing concerns.
