Postpartum Depression

Emotional Support For All New Mothers
Pregnancy and the postpartum period are challenging times. A woman's emotional health is most vulnerable. Being pregnant can be difficult. Caring for an infant is exhausting and endless work. Regardless of how prepared a woman is or how much she looked forward to this experience, it is a time of great change, one that may include unexpected "highs" and "lows."

One out of every ten women encounters feelings during this time that are difficult to express or understand. She may have a wide range of emotional experiences, from feelings of excitement and joy to feelings of anxiety, anger, sadness and worry.

Even with help and support, a woman may feel uncertain and concerned about herself. Her expectations about becoming a mother may be very different from what is actually happening, leaving her feeling confused, embarrassed, ashamed and alone.
